For those early birds or night owls or those wanting an unforgettable sight to hold in their memories and Instagram feeds! There are some fantastic spots for capturing the transitions between day and night and night and day!
The west coast of course is renowned for its sunset skies and the Heart of Argyll have some fantastic view points.
In particular the west end of the Crinan canal and the viewpoints around Dunadry, above Bellanoch and Crinan Woods or Dunadd Fort all offer unfettered views to the spot where the sun sinks below the horizon (depending on the time of year!).
Do take care, make sure someone knows where you are. Take a torch, midge spray and a head net, and of course take your litter home with you. If you are sunset or sunrise spotting and are out and about in the dark – remember it can be very dark here! This in itself is a bonus for pics of star strewn skies and occasionally the aurora borealis!
For dawn watchers Brainport Bay in Minard boasts an ancient solar alignment. The sun rises over the mountains at the head of Loch Fyne on the longest day. The coastal paths and hills around Tarbert and lower Loch Fyne have great vantage points for watching the sunrise too.
Kilmartin Glen can also be particularly magical in early morning light, particularly when the mists role through.
