Our abundance of fresh water and sea lochs with peaceful quiet beaches present a myriad of opportunities to take to our waters, socks and shoes off for a wee paddle, wild swimming or taking a refreshing dip at the waters edge. Our waters are enjoyed by locals and visitors alike, although cold shock, cold water incapacitation and hypothermia for those inexperienced in cold water swimming are a real possibility.
We always recommend you are accompanied and keep well within your limits, remembering to check ahead for tidal heights and flows and be aware of hidden obstacles or rocks.
Choosing to venture into our waters with an open water swimming professional, someone who knows the waters and is qualified to assess the risks and to perform first aid or a rescue if necessary is an excellent way to start your journey into our pristine waters safely and to learn valuable skills for the future.
